Wolcott Area Youth Baseball

Our program, sponsored by the Elks Lodge, is proud to offer Instructional,Tee Ball, Minors, and Majors baseball Divisions, as well as girls Softball, for boys and girls ages 4 thru 13.
A child’s placement in a division is determined primarily by age, before May 1, as dictated by Little League International, and secondarily by skill level. A child may be moved to another division (up or down) upon a coaches recommendation and parent consent.

  • Instructional: Open to boys and girls, age 4, new to the sport of baseball. Instructional offers an age-appropriate introduction to the game and seeks to develop preliminary skills.
  • Tee Ball: Open to boys and girls, age 5 thru 8. Tee Ball focuses on skill development, including advancement in hitting and fielding with a goal to progress young players from tee to machine pitch.
  • Minors: Primarily consists of children ages 9 and 10. Focuses on teamwork and skill development with an introduction to player pitching. There are travel requirements at this level.
  • Majors: Primarily consists of children ages 11 and 12. Focuses on advanced skill development and situational baseball. There are travel requirements at this level.
  • Softball: Consists of girls ages 9 thru 13. Focuses on advancement of basic skills and techniques while learning aspects of the game and understanding game situations. There are travel requirements at this level.

Instructional
Open to boys and girls, age 4, new to the sport of baseball. Instructionall is designed to develop introductory-level skills such as throwing, catching, hitting off a tee, and base running.

Tee Ball
Open to boys and girls, age 5 thru 8. Tee Ball focuses on skill development, including advancement in hitting and fielding with a goal to progress young players from tee to machine pitch. Games are three innings. A limit is placed on the number of runs that can be scored each inning (since the recording of three outs may still be difficult to accomplish).

Minors
Primarily consists of children ages 9 and 10.Minors focuses on skill development and teamwork. Players learn game basics such as the difference between force outs and tag outs. Children are given opportunities to try many different positions and learn that it is okay to make mistakes.
Minors baseball is played as follows:

  • Six inning games
  • 10 players in the field (four outfielders)
  • Player-pitch (overhand)
  • No leading or stealing
  • No bunting
  • Maximum of five runs per inning
  • Children play in both the infield and outfield regularly

Majors
Primarily consists of children ages 11 and 12. Majors continues the focus on skill development and teamwork. Players gain a familiarity with most aspects of the game and a general understanding of game situations.
Majors baseball is played as follows:

  • Six inning games
  • Games are umpired
  • Ten players in the field
  • Players pitch (three inning maximum)
  • No leading
  • Stealing is permitted after a pitch crosses home plate
  • Bunting is permitted
  • Maximum of five runs per inning
  • Children play in both the infield and outfield regularly

Girls Softball
Primarily consists of girls ages 9 thru 13. This program will focus on teamwork and improving skills over a varied age range. Players are encouraged to play Tee Ball before entering this division but it is not mandatory. Players will continue to improve upon fundamental skills and learn aspects of the game.

  • Six inning games
  • Games are umpired
  • Ten players in the field
  • Players pitch (three inning maximum)
  • No leading
  • Stealing is determined by coaches
  • Bunting is permitted
  • Maximum of five runs per inning
  • Children play in both the infield and outfield regularly

Our seasons typically begin as soon as we can safely practice on the fields, usually late April. The seasons will end in late June, although All-star tournaments will extend into summer. Depending on division, games are played on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Make-up games are at the discretion of the coaches.
